Research

The School is open to researchers of all nationalities upon submission of a detailed project, with preference given to individuals associated with the supporting university institutions.

Two types of affiliation are available: for periods of residence in Japan (resident researcher or research fellow) or for research projects connected to ISEAS even without residing on-site (non-resident researcher or affiliated researcher).

The acceptance of resident researchers is also constrained by the physical space available at the Kyoto headquarters. To submit a project or inquire about affiliation, please contact

Ph.D. Candidates

Ph.D. candidates conducting research on East Asia at Italian or foreign universities can obtain affiliation with the School, typically during their stay in Japan. Affiliation can also be maintained remotely for specific needs. Affiliated Ph.D. candidates have free access to the School’s facilities and services and receive assistance for their research activities.
