Publication of the entire text of the “Journal of a Journey to Northern Japan,” written between 1868 and 1869 by the Italian merchant Giacomo Farfara, with translation of Japanese accounts related to this historical figure.

In 2023-24, I have been working on how artistic and/or ethnographic sonic materials can be used to express various kinds of ‘loss’, also in relation to environmental changes (project supported by the Dutch Research Council). Currently, I am also working on a monograph on sonic heritage in contemporary Japan, based on several years of fieldwork and musical apprenticeship.
